  THE BACK STORY

The idea for Mountain Track has been building for some time. The founders have long recognised the need for long term intervention programs that can adequately meet the needs of vulnerable young people. They see the need for long term intervention programs based on strong, positive on-going mentoring-relationships and having the whole community as part of the program.

Without access to a place of belonging, life can be hard. It becomes difficult to connect to community, participate in education or training or to find employment. And once this sense of belonging is lost or strained it’s easy to slip in to cycles of homelessness, substance use, psychological distress, juvenile crime, disengagement from school and unemployment.

That’s where we see Mountain Track fitting in for these young people. It's there to offer support, encouragement, and belief in these young people.  To engage young people, help them develop life and work skills, and help them plan their future pathway.

Aside from the importance of strong connection, another thing we’ve noticed is how well many young people respond to being out in nature; immersed in the wilderness whilst accompanied by good people and away from many of the daily challenges they face.

A fun, supportive and engaging program set in a stunning wild, natural environment is a great place to embark on positive life-pathways and build strong relationships that will last a lifetime.

Our Team.

Our team of staff and volunteers come to Mountain Track with passion, knowledge, skills, wisdom, and an extraordinary ability to connect with young people. They share an innate belief in the potential of young people who are experiencing tough times and a commitment to never give up on any young person who walks through the Mountain Track Gates.
