Mountain Track
Mechanics
The Accelerator Program is a 5-week pre-accredited automotive skills training program that offers purpose, belonging and different life options for young people coming into contact with the youth justice system or disengaged from school or community. The course is designed young people to gain accomplishment, new skills and a new outlook on life.
The course provides practical and technical motor mechanic pre-vocational training while also building life skills, confidence, and job readiness. It’s a course that offers positive outcomes and employment pathways for all participants. As part of this program, we also expect to see improved wellbeing for participants and increased engagement with their family, friends and communities.
Technical skills offered through the program include automotive care skills, OH&S, industry knowledge, computer skills, finance, numeracy and literacy skills, and language.
Life skills include self-reflection, self-care, strength building, resilience, organising, managing expectations, creative expression, self-confidence, social and communication skills, cooking and cleaning.
The Accelerator Program is a strength-based model that recognizes each young person comes with their own story, experiences, skills and abilities. Walking alongside them towards positive futures means tailoring our support for each of them.

We adopt the same approach to care with our accelerator program participants as we do for the entire Mountain Track Youth Program. Firstly, we build connection between young people and the mentors.
Once rapport and mutual respect is established and they feel as though they firmly belong at Mountain Track, we work on training them in the art of mechanics. Finally, we work at building a community of support around them as they head towards positive futures.
